HR Manager Bill Champa nominated this team for its success at increasing the diversity of employees in the Information Technology Department.
“The IT Department stopped outsourcing its IT Service Desk and Deskside Support services last year. The mission: To bring the services in-house to more quickly and easily resolve employees’ technology issues to get them back to work faster.
“Bringing the services in-house meant the department had approximately 30 new positions to fill. With an eye on equity, IT and Human Resources set out to hire a qualified, diverse workforce.
“A creative and thorough recruitment, selection and onboarding process allowed IT to hire and retain qualified, diverse employees, increasing people of color in the department from 12 percent on Feb. 1, 2015, to more than 27 percent today. This statistic outpaces national averages in the field.
“This team’s effort helps the City change the face of our workforce to better reflect the community we serve and make progress toward our goal of One Minneapolis.”
