Co-STAR Award

Charles Bernardy, Alecia Prins and Joyce Traver
Human Resources Department

HR Manager Bill Champa nominated the team for its work implementing the paid parental leave policy and centralizing management of the Family Medical Leave Act on short notice and while a computer system upgrade was happening.

“The team involved key representatives from several departments including Police, Fire, Public Works and others. They researched about 30 public and private organizations for comparisons. They cooperated with the City Coordinator’s Office, Communications, Finance and Property Services, and the City Attorney's Office. They also involved labor representatives and offered educational and training sessions to employees.

“Since Jan. 1, 2015, 90 employees took advantage of the paid parental leave benefit. This additional benefit helps make the City of Minneapolis an employer of choice.”
