Greta Bergstrom named Communications Department director
Greta Bergstrom is the new director of the Communications Department. She joined the City March 7.
As director, Bergstrom will manage the City’s proactive and reactive communications work to promote City government news and information and help people understand and benefit from the City’s work and engage in the governing process. She’ll oversee a staff that provides information to a variety of internal and external audiences through media relations, internal communications, Web and social media strategy, crisis communications, video production, government access TV channels, graphic design and branding, and cable franchise management.
Bergstrom brings more than 18 years of communications experience to the City. Most recently, she developed and led all facets of strategic communications, earned media and marketing work for TakeAction Minnesota, a statewide organization working to realize racial and economic equity across Minnesota. Before that, she worked in advertising and marketing as director of Politics & Public Affairs for North Woods Advertising and as a senior advertising account executive for Best Buy. In these roles, Bergstrom managed media budgets for broadcast and cable TV, radio and print advertising, and she directed the development and execution of strategic communications planning and marketing.

A. Minneapolis is a dynamic, diverse and endlessly creative place to live and work. In my experience, communications can be used effectively to solve problems and connect people together. My goal is to help elevate the city’s unique stories and voices and sharpen a singular identity with which to serve residents, businesses and visitors alike.
Q. What are some favorite places to eat in Minneapolis?
A. A thousand to choose from but I love Birchwood, Sonora Grill, Avenue Eatery and Sea Salt.
