Dan Genrich, engineering technician
Traffic and Parking Services, Public Works

Engineering technician supervisor Greg Guerrino nominated Genrich for his focus on the City’s future, years of excellent work and dedication to improving team morale and efficiency:

“Dan oversees the daily Gopher State One Call tasks for our group. Gopher State One Call is the notification system set up to inform Minnesota underground facility operators of intended excavation. As the communication link between the excavator and the underground facility operator, it has increased public safety while decreasing underground facility damage, monetary loss and personal injury by coordinating the location of underground facilities.

“Gopher State One Call is mandated by the State. Last year the City managed about 50,000 requests, so you can see the amount of tickets that Genrich processes and allocates to lower level technicians is substantial. Genrich not only helps his fellow employees organize their daily ticket requests; he also monitors the process throughout the day and makes sure that everyone knows that he is there to help. His presence is instrumental to this very important process, which has to be done every day.

“Genrich does a phenomenal job training and educating our staff in all Gopher State One Call procedures and new technology. His attitude and willingness to be a team member have made me a better supervisor and our employees more efficient workers as well.

“In weekly meetings, Genrich takes the initiative to answer questions brought up from field staff about Gopher State One Call. When technology or procedures that affect our staff change, he brings those changes to the discussion with a positive attitude to get everyone on board. His work demeanor to get things done sets the tone for our group accepting the changes and moving forward.

“Genrich has brought to our attention ways to increase efficiency with innovative ideas and reviews of new technology. He is typically first to acknowledge upper management’s decisions to move forward with a new procedure; his positive attitude about such changes helps show his fellow employees that the changes might be difficult at first but are for the ultimate good of the City, which is why we are all working here.

“In recent months, Genrich has brought ideas to the group to reorganize and modernize our training procedures and redesign our entire process of field-locating the mandated Gopher State One Call requests. We have researched his requests and with some other team members’ suggestions are moving forward with implementing his ideas.”
