Get to know Katrina Kessler
Q. How would you describe your leadership style?
A. I would describe my style as collaborative. I like to work hard and inspire others to do so. I also enjoy breaking down barriers, supporting innovative pragmatic problem solving, and advocating for good science and engineering work.
Q. What do you like best about working for the City?
A. I like that there are opportunities to affect change by improving our stormwater and wastewater infrastructure and thus the livability and quality of life in the City. I enjoy the variety of work and opportunities to work with partners across the City and external partners as well. It is also nice because my commute is much shorter and I have more chances to bike to work.
Q. What’s your favorite place for lunch in Minneapolis?
A. I honestly haven’t been a lot of places yet. I really liked the fried tofu from the Hibachi Daruma food truck and it is nice that Whole Foods is so close.
Q. What music are you listening to lately?
A. Lately our household has been listening to a lot of Prince and They Might be Giants’ “Science is Real.” My 7-and 5-year-old sons are really hooked on “I am a Paleontologist” and “Photosynthesis.”
Q. Do you have any favorite quotes?
A. Lift as you rise which is a paraphrase of the John F. Kennedy quote “A rising tide lifts all boats.”
Q. What’s your favorite movie?
A. That is a hard question. I honestly don’t spend a lot of time watching movies. My kids will watch movies during long car rides and these days they are really into “Minions” and “How to Train Your Dragon,” so unfortunately those are what come to mind.
