Minneapolis honored nationally for excellence in public health

The City’s Green Business Cost Sharing Program has been honored for exemplary and replicable best practices in response to a critical local public health need. The program was one of 23 local health department programs across the nation to receive the National Association of County and City Health Officials’ (NACCHO) prestigious Model Practice Award.

The City program is a unique and effective approach to address worker exposure to chemicals, neighborhood exposure and regional air quality issues. The program changes the way local governments address pollution by treating business owners as partners in finding real solutions. Since 2013 the program has reduced pollution from entering the air in Minneapolis neighborhoods by nearly 12 tons. Learn more about the Green Business Cost Sharing Program.

Since 2003, NACCHO’s Model Practice Awards have honored programs, resources and tools that demonstrate how local health departments and their community partners can effectively collaborate to address local public health challenges. Each innovative project receiving the Model Practice Award was peer-reviewed and selected from a competitive group of 69 applicants.
