Bring your employee ID badge to enter the Federal Courthouse Parking Ramp
The City is updating security in the Federal Courthouse Parking Ramp. Employees now need their employee ID badges to:
- Drive personal vehicles (not department or pool cars) through the ramp’s vehicle gates.
- Enter the ramp from the pedestrian doors next to the elevators and stairs.
Property Services and Traffic and Parking Services are working with department liaisons to ensure a smooth transition to this new system.
ABM Parking Services staff are collecting employees’ current ramp access cards this week at the ramp’s vehicle gates. Employees who park a personal vehicle in the ramp need to turn in their current ramp access cards and carry their employee ID badges to enter and exit the ramp. Employees who are on vacation or away from the office during the change-over days Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week should work with their department liaisons to turn in their current ramp access cards as soon as possible when they return.
Before the security update takes place, department liaisons will receive new ramp access cards for department or pool cars parked in the Federal Courthouse Parking Ramp, and the old access cards will be collected. If the department has too many pool cars to make this practical, then the old access cards will be swapped out for new cards as the pool cars enter or exit the ramp during the three change-over days. Any pool cars that do not change out their access cards during those three days will have the new access cards delivered to their department liaison, who will manage swapping the cards out.
The new ramp access cards must remain in the vehicles at all times. Employees who use the pool cars will need their employee ID badges to enter the ramp through the pedestrian doors next to the elevators and stairs; they will need the new ramp access cards inside the cars to drive through the ramp’s vehicle gates.
Who will have access to the ramp?
Access to the ramp’s vehicle gates and pedestrian doors will be automatically programmed into the City ID badges of employees who park a personal vehicle in the ramp. Access to the ramp’s pedestrian doors will be automatically programmed into the City ID badges of employees who currently have access to downtown City buildings. In addition, department liaisons have identified employees who don’t work downtown but who also may need access to the ramp, for pool cars for example, and they will also be given access to the pedestrian doors.
Employees who have bike lockers or shower access in the Federal Courthouse Parking Ramp should contact ABM Parking at 612-343-7275 about their access.
Lost access cards, forgotten City ID badges
If employees forget or lose their ramp access cards, the red button at the ramp exits will connect them to ABM Parking Services 24/7. ABM Parking Services has a list of City employees who have access to the ramp and will remotely open the vehicle gates and pedestrian doors if an employee provides their name and City ID number.
Downtown electronic access
This is the next phase of the City project to convert downtown electronic access to a common City-controlled system. Door readers in City occupied portions of City Hall and City ID badges were converted to the City system in 2015.
