Get to know Public Works Director Robin Hutcheson
Robin Hutcheson, the new director of Public Works, officially joined the City Aug. 29. Hutcheson comes to us from Salt Lake City, where she served as its director of Transportation Services. Read her bio.
Q. How would you describe your leadership style?
A. My leadership style is collaborative and democratic. I try to understand many sides of a situation, with the best information possible, before making a decision or judgment.
Q. What interests you about working for the City of Minneapolis?
A. I am impressed with the level of commitment from top to bottom at the City. There is an evident true love for doing great work for the people who choose to live, work and play here.
Q. What’s your first priority as director of Public Works?
A. A first priority is getting to know the people I will be working with, and the many resources of the City. I’ll build a strong foundation with a series of listening tours.
Q. What’s something surprising that people don’t know about you?
A. I love winter. You can ask me this again in April.
Q. What’s your favorite restaurant so far in Minneapolis?
A. It’s a toss-up between Bar LaGrassa and the bakery section of Lucia’s.
Q. What music are you listening to lately?
A. Joseph, My Morning Jacket, Lord Huron, Brandi Carlisle, Head and the Heart, assorted pop music.
Q. Do you have any favorite quotes?
A. No, I guess I don’t. I’m a voracious fiction reader though.
Q. What’s your favorite movie?
A. I’m a sucker for musicals, so Chicago and Hairspray. I loved the Secret Life of Walter Mitty for the creative story and scenery.
