New City onboarding program positions new managers, supervisors for success

Human Resources now offers an onboarding program for new City managers and supervisors to welcome them into their new roles and help them understand the environment in which they work. The training aims to support new managers and supervisors to help them work effectively and efficiently from the start. Participants are identified by Human Resources and are expected to attend three half-day sessions.

The Onboarding for Managers and Supervisors Workshops show new managers and supervisors how to navigate the City’s unique organization with an introduction to City departments and the way the City is governed. New managers and supervisors learn what to expect in their first 90 days on the job and take a virtual tour of the City. The training also highlights manager and supervisor responsibilities, what it means to lead in the City, and what systems and tools we use. The program concludes with a panel discussion with City leadership.

The new onboarding program works in conjunction with departmental-level orientation and the other Supervisor U programs offered by Human Resources.

Human Resources plans to roll out additional training programs for all City employees in 2017 as part of Employee U.
