The next selection for the City’s READ book club delves further into the story of the Oscar-nominated movie “Hidden Figures,” exploring more about the black women who worked at NASA at its inception and helped America land on the moon before Russia. “Hidden Human Computers: The Black Women of NASA” by Sue Bradford Edwards and Duchess Harris explores the institutional racism and sexism faced by these mathematicians and scientists during the intersection of the Cold War, the space race, the struggle for gender equality and the civil rights movement.
