Get the tools, resources and support you need to manage a diverse workforce and promote equity and fairness in hiring. Human Resources offers Supervisor U learning and development courses specifically designed for City supervisors and managers regardless of their titles or levels within the organization. Take these courses if your job responsibilities include hiring, directing the work of others, and ensuring others have the resources and support to be productive.
The courses aim to align City workforce practices with the City’s value of creating fair and just opportunities and outcomes for all. City leaders and supervisors provided input on the topics and helped shape course content.
- Conducting performance appraisals: This training is required of any supervisor who has not used the Halogen system to conduct performance appraisals. The class covers the City's performance management process, explains the rating systems, offers tips for the performance discussion and reviews how to use Halogen.
Time commitment: two hours.
Dates: Jan 25 or Feb. 9.
- NEW: Supervising in a union environment: Appropriate for supervisors and managers who direct the work of union employees. Become a more capable supervisor by understanding your rights and responsibilities under union contracts. Learn to interpret contract language and apply contract provisions to day-to-day supervisory situations.
Time commitment: six hours.
Date: Jan. 31.
- Making feedback work for you: How to deliver feedback that helps reinforce appropriate behavior, encourage higher levels of performance and redirect problem performance, and seek and respond to feedback.
Time commitment: One half-day class.
Date: Feb. 7.
