Karuna Mahajan named director of Operations and Innovation in CPED
Karuna Mahajan is the new director of Operations and Innovation in the Community Planning and Economic Development Department.
As Operations and Innovation director, Mahajan will manage the daily operations of the department including its budget, personnel issues, business plans and department policies. She will also lead the department’s efforts in business process improvement; run the City’s Innovation Center; and manage a team of eight including CPED’s interagency coordinator, three technology project managers and the marketing and communications manager.
Mahajan has worked for the City since 2001. Most recently she served as a contract administrator in residential and real estate development in CPED’s Housing Division. While there, she managed contracts for more than 700 City-owned properties, helped implement the City’s new Target Market Program and prepared financial reports. Before that, she worked in the City’s Finance Department for nine years and the Police Department for five years. She started her career at the City as a budget analyst intern.
Before joining the City, Mahajan worked at GlobalCase Technologies and the City of Charlotte, NC.
Mahajan holds a degree in psychology from Panjab University in Chandigarh, India; a post-graduate diploma in public relations from Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan, India; a master’s degree in public administration from Panjab University in Chandigarh, India; and a master’s degree in public administration from Toledo, Ohio.
Mahajan serves as a volunteer on the Maple Grove Townhome Association Board and is an accomplished Indian classical dancer (Kathak), teaching dance and performing and choreographing community recitals for many years.
