Join the Emergency Operations Center team to help during special events, disasters

If you haven’t applied yet to help in the City’s Emergency Operations Center during a major special event or disaster, you still can. This past winter, City employees had the chance to participate in a professional development opportunity to help the community and first responders during major special events and disasters by joining the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) team. Emergency Management is offering two more informational sessions. The EOC team will help coordinate response and recovery efforts after a disaster if their positions are called for in the Emergency Operations Center. They’ll also get a chance to help out with the City’s side of operations during Super Bowl LII.

Here’s what is involved

To join the team, you’ll need to complete training including:

You’ll also attend monthly team meetings and participate in continuing education.

Training and meetings take place during the regular workday, so employee participation will be subject to supervisor approval and department policy. EOC team members will receive their regular wages when they train and if they participate in an Emergency Operations Center activation.

Skills you will learn

The training courses will help you gain skills in problem-solving, managing and measuring work, communication, conflict management, and customer service. You’ll experience fast-paced decision-making and use your knowledge of City departments to find the resources needed to help those affected in an emergency.
