Green Homes North wins NALHFA Single-Family Excellence Award
CPED’s Green Homes North program was selected by the National Association of Local Housing Finance Agencies as the Single-Family Excellence Award winner.
Green Homes North launched in 2012 with a goal to build 100 new sustainable homes in north Minneapolis, the area most impacted by subprime lending, foreclosures and devastation from a 2011 tornado. CPED funded 105 homes. Some have innovative designs – including features such as net zero energy, LEED Gold certification, multigenerational living, universal design and artist live/work space – and some are small homes with the capacity to expand.
To date, 49 homes have sold. The average buyer is a household of three with a median income of $48,700 (56 percent of the regional area median income). Approximately 60 percent of the homes sold to households of color, helping to close regional homeownership disparities. Three homes are permanently affordable, and 15 homes have options to preserve affordability for 30 years.
Green Homes North is now part of the newly developed Minneapolis Homes: Buy-Build-Rehab program. Learn more.
