Celebrate Juneteenth

Dating back to 1865, Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery. The Twin Cities Juneteenth Celebration will take place at North Mississippi Regional Park (5114 N. Mississippi Drive) Saturday, June 17. The festivities include a community breakfast, parade, live music, storytelling, kids’ activities, boat training and vendors. 

In observance of Juneteenth, the City County Chorus will perform at noon, Monday, June 19, on the skyway level of Hennepin County Government Center, 300 S. Sixth St. 

The Hennepin County Library is also celebrating Juneteenth with special events at:

Library events will include demonstrations by Voice of Culture Drum+Dance, Million Artist Movement, Black Storytellers Alliance, Never Ending Story Circle, Journey Productions, Passed Presents, Free Black Dirt and Ancestry Books.
