Windows 10 upgrade coming to remaining City computers

If you haven’t had the Windows 10 upgrade yet, watch for more information from IT. The rollout of Windows 10 is moving into the next phase to upgrade the remaining computers. The timeline for the rollout is now posted along with a list of resources and support services.   

Watch for an email from IT Customer Communications for details. The rollout process includes pilot testing and allows flexibility on the specific installation date for each location. The schedule also depends on application testing and the number of computers per location. 

The path to Windows 10

The IT Department is currently working with department liaisons to finalize the rollout schedule for each department.

Win 10 Process-Plan 

Once the date is determined, the Windows 10 installation will take place overnight with IT staff onsite to make sure computers are ready and to facilitate the installation process. Computers need to be left onsite, be powered on and connected to the network. IT staff will also be onsite the morning after the installation to provide support as needed.

Software and core business applications such as ELMS and Practice Manager will be included in the Windows 10 installation. If you need to reinstall other software, you can use the Software Center. Read these instructions on how to use the Software Center.

Certain software will prevent some employees from getting Windows 10 on their computers (for example if you use MINS, SWIS or Lagan), so a separate timeline will be set for staff who use those applications.

The IT Service Desk will help with additional questions or any issues with the City’s Microsoft software and systems. Agents will assist you 5:45 a.m.-midnight Monday-Friday and 9 a.m.- 7 p.m. on weekends.
