Get a flu shot at work now through Nov. 7

Mark your calendar! Worksite vaccinations in the coming weeks will make it convenient for employees to get their flu shots. No reservations are required; all vaccinations are on a first-come, first-served basis.

The events, which are offered through Medica and the Minnesota Visiting Nurse Agency (MVNA)/Hennepin Healthcare System (HHS), Inc., are open to all employees and their family members.

Free to employees on City’s health insurance plan

Employees on the City’s health insurance plan get free flu shots (flu mist is no longer available). Employee group numbers 69375, 69373, 91682, 91686, 91678, 91690, 48394, 49391, 91681, 91685, 91677, and 91689 are eligible. Also, retirees with insurance group numbers 69385, 69382, 91684, 91688, 91680, 91692, 94707, 48399, 91683, 91687, 91679, and 91691 can also receive flu shots under this plan.

Just attend an event listed below and show your City health insurance card from Medica (or a photocopy) and a picture ID (driver’s license or employee ID badge).

You will be given a consent form specific to each clinic site to sign before receiving the vaccination. HHS will not give seasonal flu shots to those who have contra-indications as listed on the vaccination information sheets available at each site.

Please wear clothing that allows easy access to your upper arm.

Family members

Family members who are at least 3 years old may get flu shots at the worksite vaccination events if they are covered under the employee’s City health insurance or other accepted insurance. Children between 6 months and 2 years old must be seen by their primary care provider.

Costs for employees, family members not on City’s health insurance plan

Employees not on the City’s health insurance plan may bring proof of coverage under other insurance plans accepted by the MVNA/HHS Inc. to pay for the flu shot.

The agency will bill employees for any denied insurance claims or for any deductibles or copays their non-City plans require. Without an insurance card, the fee for the worksite flu shot is $38. Make checks payable Hennepin Healthcare System Inc.

Why get vaccinated

Getting vaccinated is the best way to avoid the flu’s fever, aches, fatigue and dangerous complications that can cause pneumonia or land you in the hospital. Since flu viruses are always changing, each year’s flu vaccine is made to provide protection from viruses that are most likely to cause disease that year.
