Get the facts about Minneapolis tap water
Many bottled water drinkers don’t realize that they’re paying more for that water than they do for gasoline. They also don’t realize the environmental cost of the water they’re drinking, and how there’s a better choice right in their own kitchen.
Helping get these facts straight is Tap Minneapolis: a new public education effort seeking to spread the word about the value of Minneapolis tap water. There are a lot of misconceptions about our tap water, and we want everyone to know the truth so they can make informed choices for themselves and their families.
For instance, did you know:
-
Minneapolis provides safe, clean tap water that meets or surpasses federal and state guidelines for water safety. In fact, Minneapolis tap water is among the safest in the nation.
-
Minneapolis tap has fluoride, which helps prevent tooth decay. Many bottled water brands contain no fluoride at all.
-
For the price of one 20-ounce bottle of water, you could nearly fill about 10 bathtubs with Minneapolis tap water. At a time when were all re-evaluating our lifestyle habits and purchasing behaviors, families can save money by switching to tap.
- Bottled water needs to be packaged at a factory and shipped to consumers. The bottles are then discarded once the water is consumed, causing unnecessary waste. Minneapolis tap water comes straight to homes and offices without the needless use of these resources.
Learn about how our tap water is better by going to the Tap Minneapolis website: www.tapmpls.com .
Funding for Tap Minneapolis comes from the City's water fund. This money, which is generated solely from the rates charged to our water customers and not taxes, cannot be used for any other purpose other than projects related to tap water.
