Metered Parking
The City of Minneapolis operates approximately 8,000 on-street metered spaces located throughout the city.
Please note:
- Metered spaces have varying time restrictions and rates.
- Time restrictions and rates are posted at each metered space.
- Rates and restrictions can vary on different sides of the street.
- Parking metered spaces are not enforced on several holidays. FREE! View the list of holidays.
- A snow emergency and fall or spring street sweeping overrides the use of parking meters. Stay informed.
- Event rates may be applied during events at US Bank Stadium, TCF Bank Stadium, Target Field and the Convention Center. Use our interactive parking meter map for details.
Pay Stations
Short on change? We've got you covered. Use can use your debit card or credit card (American Express, Visa and MasterCard) to pay for on-street metered parking. And, yes, coins are still accepted - U.S. quarters and dollar coins only please. Do not use pennies, nickels or dimes; it will not add time to the meter!
There are just 6 easy steps to use on-street metered parking:
- Park in a space marked with a number space sign.
- Read the parking restrictions, time limit, and the hours enforced.
- Note the space number.
- Locate the nearest pay station - remember to look up and down the street for the closest pay station.
- Follow the prompts to make your payment and print your receipt.
- Keep your receipt with you to keep track of your space number and when it expires.

Free Days for City Metered Spaces
On-street parking metered spaces are not enforced on the following days:
- New Year's Day
- Martin Luther King Day
- President's Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Indigenous Peoples Day
- Veterans Day
- Thanksgiving Day (and the day after Thanksgiving)
- Christmas Day
Note: Not all metered spaces in Minneapolis are operated by the City. Minneapolis Parks & Recreation, the University of Minnesota, and private organizations like Fairview/University Hospital operate their own meters and their holiday schedule may vary. Always read the information posted on the meter to be certain.

If you have trouble with any multi-space pay station just remember that with your space number you can pay at any nearby pay station.
