Minneapolis Police Department Honor Guard
The Honor Guard was established in 1992 to represent the MPD at local funeral services and services honoring fallen Peace Officers nationwide. The MPD Honor Guard is comprised of full-time sworn MPD police officers that come from a variety of city wide positions and volunteer to attend retired officer funeral services, active duty death funeral services, and in the death line of duty funeral services.
When requested by a current or former employee's family, the Honor Guard attends the funeral and interment services. Peace Officers dedicated their professional lives to provide public safety to the community and are recognized by the MPD Honor Guard for their noble service.
"From the dignity of the Honor Guard, I drew the strength I needed to place Charlie's urn in the grave and our niece Jennifer found the composure she needed to give the reading. My family and I reflect often on how much the Honor Guard helped us that difficult day. The Honor Guard gave us courage and made it possible for us to begin healing. We are very grateful to the MPD Honor Guard for their vital service to the fallen and their families." -Aileen Johnson
