Community Justice Project

The Community Justice Program is a collaboration between the Minneapolis Police Department and the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches. The program’s focus is to increase public safety by reducing recidivism of returning offenders.

Program volunteers make a commitment to attend 10 hours of training and visit people for one year prior to their release and re-entry back into community.  Volunteers mentor at the Adult Correction Facility in Plymouth or the state facilities at either Shakopee or Lino Lakes.   The total time commitment is four hours per month for one year. In addition to mentoring adults, volunteers also mentor youth on probation as a collaborative partnership with Hennepin County Juvenile Probation.
