Special Crimes Investigations Division
Units in this division include: Crimes Against Children, Domestic Assault, License Investigations, Sex Crimes and Traffic Investigations. These units work with community partners and social service agencies to ensure violators are found and prosecuted. The teams also focus on ensuring victims receive compassionate and thoughtful service.
Crimes Against Children Unit
The Crimes Against Children Unit investigates crimes of neglect and/or endangerment of children, maltreatment of children, deprivation of parental rights, and intra-familial sex abuse. Investigators work to break patterns of abuse and mistreatment and connect children to valuable social services.
Domestic Assault Unit
This unit sees thousands of cases of domestic assault each year. Investigators work to reduce domestic violence, strengthen families in the city, and hold people accountable for felony level domestic assault.
Licensing, Financial Crimes and Narcotics
This unit includes Auto Theft Prevention, Financial Crimes and Narcotics. Investigators are also assigned liquor licensing and youth alcohol compliance cases, gambling investigations, firearm permit processing, pawn investigations, problem properties cases and animal crimes investigations. The Financial Crimes Unit investigates abuse of vulnerable adults. The Narcotics Unit conducts investigations into those arrested for narcotics and serve on the Hennepin County Model Drug Court.

Sex Crimes
Investigators on this team work on sex crime cases throughout the city. The crimes include but are not limited to rape, molestation, indecent conduct, child pornography and stalking cases. Detectives work with victims and social service agencies to ensure the department supports a victim-centered approach. The unit is also responsible for predatory offender compliance as well as investigations into missing and trafficked juveniles.
