CITYWIDE TRENDS The MPLS total violent crime rate continues to be lower than last year by 11%.
MPLS has had 13 homicides this year to date (none this week). This is a 32% decrease from 19 homicides at this time in 2007. Robberies decreased by 31% this week. The year-to-date decrease is 11% compared to 2007. Aggravated assaults are 11% lower in this year-to-date period. Rape has decreased by 5% this year. Total property crimes decreased by 12% in this year period. weapons have been recovered this year, this week. |

1st Precinct: Down 12% this week and for the year, total violent crime rates continue to trend downward. Robbery increased by 17% this week, yet remains 2% less for the year to date. Property crime totals fell by 10% this week, but have increased by 14% this year over 2007. 2nd Precinct: Overall violent crime remains significantly lower in all categories this week and this year; down 50% this week and 36% this year to date. Property crimes are following the same trend: down 52% this week and 37% this year. 3rd Precinct: Violent crime totals rose this week by 17% driven by an increase in the number of rapes and aggravated assaults. Violent crime rates for the year, however, are 2% lower over 2007 this year to date. Larceny increased by 47% this week, increasing the total property crime rate by 14% for the week, although still down 1% lower than last year at this time.
4th Precinct: Total violent crime remains 16% lower than last year by this time, but did increase by 20% this week. This week’s increase was due to an increase in the number of aggravated assaults which involved multiple victims. Property crime rose 13% this week, but is 22% lower this year to date. 5th Precinct: Though down by 31% this week, violent crime overall for the year has risen by 3% due to an increase in robbery and rape. The number of auto thefts increased from 5 to 13 in this same reporting week over last year, contributing to the total 7% increase in property crime this week. For the year to date period, however, property crime remains 9% lower than in 2007. | |||||
