CITYWIDE TRENDS The MPLS total violent crime rate continues to be lower than last year by 13%.
MPLS has had 13 homicides this year to date. This is a 43% decrease from 23 homicides at this time in 2007. Robberies decreased by 46% this week. The year-to-date decrease is 14% compared to 2007. Aggravated assaults are 11% lower in this year-to-date period. Rape has decreased by 13% this year. Total property crimes decreased by 12% in this year period. 331 weapons have been placed into evidence this year, 12 this week. |

1st Precinct: Overall violent crimes dropped significantly this week, down by 52% over this time last year. Year-to-date violent crime rates remain lower, now by 23% over 2007. A 21% increase in larceny and one additional case of arson is driving up property crime totals by 10% for this year compared to 2007. 2nd Precinct: Total violent crime is among the lowest in the City this week. Down by 59% over 2007, violent crime totals continue to trend downward with one exception: there have two more cases of rape reported this year. Property crimes are still lower this week and for the year by 33%, but there were two more cases of Auto Theft this week. 3rd Precinct: Violent crime totals have fallen 1% compared with this time in 2007 for the year, but have been on the rise this week. There were 5 cases of rape reported this week and 26 cases of aggravated assault. Property crime rates rose this week in almost all categories and by 10% overall. Officers noted a several explosions this week in the W River Pkwy/Lake area. Similar explosions have been reported in this area for the last few years. Investigators are working hard to identify the source. 4th Precinct: The reduction in the violent crime rate remains steadily lower this week compared to 2007 and this year to date; violent crime is down 28% this week and 18% for the year. Property crime rates remain on average 21% lower for the week and for the year. 5th Precinct: Violent crime rates fell sharply this week by 54%, keeping the year-to-date totals 2% lower than 2007.
