MPD HIGHLIGHTS for the week of 10-16 June, 2008
CITYWIDE TRENDS The MPLS total violent crime rate continues to be lower than last year by 13%.
MPLS has had 17 homicides this year to date. This is a 32% decrease from 25 homicides at this time in 2007. Robberies decreased by 49% this week. The year-to-date decrease is 17% compared to 2007. Aggravated assaults were 7% lower in this year-to-date period. Rape has decreased by 11% this year. Total property crimes decreased by 10% in this year period. 366 weapons have been placed into evidence this year, 12 this week. |

1st Precinct: Overall violent crime rates rose 5% this week, driven an increase in aggravated assaults. Robbery fell this week by 25%, but the number of aggravated assaults rose to 11 from 5 this week last year. An 18% increase in the reported number of larceny cases has driven up total property crime to 9% over this time last year. 2nd Precinct: Violent crime totals are 27% lower this year to date, but have risen 18% this week from 11 to 13 this week. Property crimes remain lower as well at 30% less than in 2007. 3rd Precinct: Violent crime decreased this week by 44%, keeping the totals for the year 5% lower than in 2007. Incidents of aggravated assaults are a cause for concern; this week there was a 22% decrease, they are up 5% for the year. Property crime totals remain lower than last year.
4th Precinct: Total violent crime remains 17% lower than last year’s in number to date. There was an increase in the number of rapes reported this week (6) compared to 1 reported last year. Property crimes have decreased for the year by 19%. 5th Precinct: Robberies and aggravated assaults fell this week, lowering violent crime rates again, now by 3% compared with this week in 2007.
