MPD HIGHLIGHTS for the week of 17-23 June, 2008
CITYWIDE TRENDS The MPLS total violent crime rate continues to be lower than last year by 14%.
MPLS has had 17 homicides this year to date. This is a 32% decrease from 25 homicides at this time in 2007. Robberies decreased by 12% this week. The year-to-date decrease is 17% compared to 2007. Aggravated assaults were 10% lower in this year-to-date period. Rape has decreased by 14% this year. Total property crimes decreased by 9% in this year period. 394 weapons have been placed into evidence this year, 28 this week. |

3500 blk 4th Av S: Officers responded to SpotSpotter activation, located victim in alley with gunshot wound to back; multiple witnesses were located; witness/suspect was with victim when he was shot, disposed of gun in nearby dumpster; gun recovered; Crime Lab called to scene; victim transported to HCMC; officers learned that there was gun battle between 2 pairs of males; shooting may be related to earlier shooting in 4th Precinct CID investigating |

1st Precinct: Though a homicide took place this week, overall other violent crime fell by 42% and is 23% lower for the year-to-date period. Total property crime is up for the year thus far by 9%, but fell by 9% this week. Larceny continues to be a cause for concern, having increased by 18% this year. 2nd Precinct: Violent crime remains lower for the year by 25% and last week fell by 8% in spite of greater incidents of robbery and aggravated assault. Property crime in general is lower by 29% this year and by 14% last week, thought more cases of auto theft and arson were reported. 3rd Precinct: Overall violent crime rose 16% this week; there were 3 more aggravated assaults reported in this week compared with this week in 2007. Still violent crime remains 4% lower for the year to date. Burglary rose 72% this week, but is lower for the year by 7%. Property crime in general is lower by 1% over last year this time.
4th Precinct: Total violent crime continues to be lower than last year this week, by 32%, and by 18% for the year to date. Property crime rates rose by 8% this week, but remain lower by 17% over last year at this time. 5th Precinct: Violent crime fell significantly this week by 53% and is 6% lower for the year. Property crime has decreased by 7% in this year-to-date timeframe, in spite of a 12% increase this week. Larceny cases increased by 31% this week and burglary incidents rose by 3%. | |||||
