MPD HIGHLIGHTS for the week of 15-21 July, 2008
CITYWIDE TRENDS The MPLS total violent crime rate continues to be lower than last year by 14%.
MPLS has had 19 homicides this year to date. This is a 27% decrease from 26 homicides at this time in 2007. Robberies decreased by 15% this week. The year-to-date decrease is 20% compared to 2007. Aggravated assaults were 7% lower in this year-to-date period. Rape has decreased by 16% this year. Total property crimes decreased by 7% in this year period. 486 weapons have been placed into evidence this year, 29 this week. |

1st Precinct: Reported incidents of violent crime increased this week in comparison to this week last year; there were two rapes, six robberies and 10 aggravated assaults, bringing the increase in total violent crime to 39% overall. In the year-to-date timeframe, violent crime remains lower by 18%. Total property crimes fell by 13% this week, but have risen this year by 12%. 2nd Precinct: Total violent crime trends remain lowest in the city at 26% lower this year. Property crimes rose 22% this week, but are still lower in the year-to-date period by 25%. 3rd Precinct: Overall violent crime fell 14% for the week and 8% for the year. Property crime fell 33% for the week and 3% for the year.
4th Precinct: Violent crime remains 16% lower in comparison to last year, but this week saw an increase in aggravated assault, bringing the overall violent crime rate to 30% above this week in 2007. 5th Precinct: A slight increase in robbery this week pushed up the rate of total violent crime to 8% for the week, but it is still 8% lower for the year over 2007. Property crime totals remain lower than at this time last year; they are 23% lower for the week and 8% lower than last year at this time. | |||||
