MPD HIGHLIGHTS for the week of 4-10 November, 2008
CITYWIDE TRENDS The MPLS total violent crime rate continues to be lower than last year by 13%.
MPLS has had 32 homicides this year to date. This is a 22% decrease from 41 homicides at this time in 2007. This is a 37% decrease from 51 homicides at this time in 2006 Robberies decreased by 35% this week. The year-to-date decrease is 17% compared to 2007. Aggravated assaults were 8% lower in this year-to-date period. Rape has decreased by 16% this year. Total property crimes decreased by 8% in this year period. 724 weapons have been placed into evidence this year, 13 this week. |

1st Precinct: Violent crime rose this week by 9% but overall is decreasing; in this year-to-date period violent crime fell 11% over 2007. Total property crimes this year have increased by 5% driven by an 11% increase in larceny this year. 2nd Precinct: Violent crime trends further downward with a 22% decrease over last year and a 40% decrease this week alone. Property crime rates also remain low, down 23% over 2007 at this time. 3rd Precinct: Total violent crime fell 31% this week and 10% this year to date. Overall property crime fell 40% this week and decreased by 5% this year. 4th Precinct: Violent crime totals decreased this week by 24% and remain down by 15% for the year-to-date period. Property crime rates fell 7% this year in spite of a 12% increase in burglary. 5th Precinct: The rate of violent crime this year fell 10% this year in spite of jump in the number of aggravated assaults this week.
