I spoke to a parent and her son about an assault he was involved in after school. His parent did not want a police report at this time but if her son gets bullied again she will be asking that the police handle the situation.

I assisted the assistant principal with a student who was making threats towards her. The student was suspended for 3 days.

I assisted a teacher with an incident in the hallway where he thought the student had brass knuckles; it ended up being a lock he had wrapped around his fingers.

I assisted the social worker with a student who was "out of control", and would not follow any directions.

I spoke to an investigator for the state about a report he had accusing a teacher of assault on a student.

  • A family dispute came up again and I advised the school on their responsibility

Officer David O’Connor

Anthony Middle School

  • Participated in a meeting with staff and parents of a student, and the student regarding his behavior. Although not acceptable it was learned his behavior is the result of him lashing out do to being bullied by other students in the school. Those students are being talked to individually by me, and the school will also be talking to the students involved.
  • Signs were posted on school property that state “No Loitering outside of School Hours.” The hope is that they will assist patrol officers. Also it is hoped that these signs can also be posted at Kenny Community Elementary School where there are bigger issues with these offenses.

Armatage Montessori

  • I fielded a concern via cell phone from a concerned parent at Armatage. He has concerns that 4th and 5th grade age student crossing guards are in danger at the intersection of 56 ST W and Penn AV S. His concern is that they will go unsupervised due to a lack of parent volunteers to assist, and that one of them will be hit or get another student hit while performing there duties at this intersection. He advised that during the week he has been volunteering he has observed at least one car drive right through a protected crosswalk with students crossing guards in place. I went out there on Friday, October 14th, for unmarked observation. I forwarded my observations/opinions to the person who has been handling the safe drop off, crossings, and pickups concerns.

Kenny Community Elementary School

  • I corresponded via e-mail with a concerned resident of the Kenny neighborhood. This concerned neighbor and her husband have engaged teenagers that are smoking marijuana while sitting on the large Adirondack chair that is on the East side of the school. The teenagers have only sneered at her and not complied with her advisements to quit their behavior. She was advised in how to be a good witness and to call 911 whenever she sees this behavior. This goes back to the necessity to have signs posted at Kenny similar to the ones at Anthony. I will be consulting with the engineers.
