Officer B. Kenow
Anwatin Middle School
Over the past week I have been dealing with a bullying/theft/assault issue. Three girls have been bullying/threatening a new student in the neighborhood - on the bus and in school. Last week this turned into a theft where the girls chased the victim then took her phone. In an attempt to curb this we had a group meeting between all the girls and the school counselors. At that point we thought the issue was over. However this past Tuesday the victim was again assaulted. Then on Thursday morning I monitored the bus stop and observed the girls again bully the victim. All witnesses, suspects and the victim were interviewed. We are now going to have a meeting with the suspects’ mother to hopefully end this issue.
Investigated three stolen phones in the school this past week. All were returned and students were advised to bring their phones to school at their own risk.
Friday I visited Hale Elementary where Officer McCann’s students were throwing a pizza party for officers and fire fighters. I met a lot of great kids and was given some very nice homemade thank you cards. One of these students was the young boy Officer Duren I gave a bike to this summer after his bike was destroyed in an arson fire.
Two fights occurred which resulted in one to four day suspensions for involved students.
Bryn Mawr
I was requested by a social worker at BM Span to have an ambulance take a 7 year old student to Riverside Crisis for evaluation.

I spoke to a student’s parent about an assault at the North Star school on Girard Ave. He reported that his kindergarten child was pushed down on the playground and he wanted a police report. Because of his demeanor and accusations towards me, I contacted Sgt. Berry who helped with the situation. A report was filed; 11-027773.
Bethune Community School
I met with Principal Jackson at Bethune about some of the 4th and 5th grade girl drama that they are starting to see in the school. I will continue to be a strong and welcoming presence at the school each week.

I assisted with some problems on bus #2 involving a specific stop at 35th Avenue North and Bryant Avenue North. I was at that location on 09-14-11 to speak to some adults but they did not show. I will call them by phone to help correct the bus situation.

A 13 year old female student had been truant for 7 out of 10 days but her mother advised me she was leaving and returning as if going to school. The school was victim to vandalism and was likely done by the same teenagers causing like issues at Kenny Elementary

In addition, a video camera utilized to observe incoming visitor is was damaged and needs replacement. (11-276705).
On Tuesday 09/13/11 I covered Washburn High School for Off. McCann - he was at annual in-service training. I responded to St. Joe’s Day Treatment School at the request of the principle, Kristi Ward. She had an assault which occurred the evening before and resulted in a terroristic threats situation on the bus the next morning. I filed two reports- an Aslt5 & Threats (11-276981) (11-276864). No victims at this time but she had concerns that this situation will persist and likely spill over into the North Minneapolis community where these particular students reside. Measures have been taken by the school to have these students on separate buses.

That suspect attempted to sell the computer on FaceBook. The victim’s mother provided information and SRO McCann and I worked the social media information; this lead us to a student at his school who had purchased the computer from the main suspect. The case is still being documented and developed but at the time of this report the victim provided the serial number which matched the computer we recovered from the WHS student. The victim is in possession of the computer. CCN 11-277524.
