MPD's New Email Crime Alert System:
Please Re-subscribe

Dear partners in crime prevention in Minneapolis,

We are enhancing our crime alert email system, and need you to re-subscribe. To continue to get crime alerts and to make our service more effective, sign up for crime alerts.

Please fill it in as completely and specifically as possible.

Here's why we need you to re-subscribe:

  • Having your location on file will help us send you information more specific to your needs, and to work with you as our Neighborhood Policing Plans are formulated, executed, and reviewed.
  • We aim to improve this communication, by both narrowing our focus to the neighborhood level when it comes to crime alerts and advisories, while continuing to send notes sector- and precinct-wide as needed. Our new system will allow us to be more flexible in what we send and target information more specifically to your needs. You will be able to ask for just those notices concerning your neighborhood, or for as many neighborhoods as you are involved with in partnership with us to reduce crime.
  • We have also expanded this service to include several alert categories, to send appropriate crime reports to you based on your line of work, service in the community, or security capacity at your place of business.
  • Your detailed sign-up will also help us to determine what areas of the city we aren’t reaching. After everyone has re-subscribed, we will be able to determine which blocks in Minneapolis we will need to barnstorm for block leaders, crime prevention volunteers and general alert contacts. Finally, this link provides you with the opportunity to subscribe to many of the City’s other email notification lists such as snow emergency alerts and City Council notices.

As a subscriber to the Minneapolis Police Department’s email crime alert lists, you know we are committed to keeping you in the loop regarding current crime trends and opportunities for involvement in crime prevention. In 2007 our Crime Prevention Specialists sent over 3,000 email messages to our lists. These emails included dozens of crime alerts, hundreds of meeting notices and crime maps, and nearly a thousand requests for community impact statements.

As before, this service is provided at no charge to you, and your contact information will be kept strictly confidential. You may unsubscribe from one or all of your lists at any time. If you have any questions whatsoever regarding crime alerts or crime and safety issues in your area, don’t hesitate to contact your Crime Prevention Specialist (if you don't know who that is, just use the second link below my signature block).

We hope you’ll “re-up” ASAP so we can bring our crime alert service to the next level in short order. Thanks for your continued commitment to crime prevention and partnership with the Minneapolis Police Department.

Sincerely,

Deputy Chief Rob Allen
Minneapolis Police Department
Patrol Bureau
