Incident Reports

Anyone may request public information created and maintained by the Minneapolis Police Department.

Access to Private, Confidential, and Non-Public data will only be released in accordance with Minnesota State Statute 13.82 on case by case basis. Please contact the Records Unit for more information and requirements for access to this type of data.

An incident report is a documented police event by the Minneapolis Police Department which includes the date, time, address, nature of the incident, adult persons involved, and a brief description of what occured.

If you are coming to Room 31 in person, call the Records Information Unit first to make sure your report is available.

Police reports may also be viewed free of charge at the public information computer in Room 31. Acess to MPD daily crime summary reports is available during business hours in Room 31.

Police reports are available beginning in the year 1990. All reports are processed in accordance with the State of Minnesota Data Privacy and Practices Law and department policy.

The Police Records Unit does not release Juvenile Arrest data. You must contact the Juvenile Investigations Unit at 612-673-2921.

Fees may apply to requests for large volumes of data and requests requiring extensive time and research. Fees also apply to all printed materials. Staff from the Records Information Unit will contact you if fees apply before processing your request. See Fee Schedule .
