Grants & Preference Points Applications

Below are the process steps required to have a Federal grant application considered for Promise Zone(PZ) preference points:

  1. The North Minneapolis Promise Zone(NMPZ) Manager is Julianne Leerssen
  2. Become a NMPZ partner by contacting the NMPZ Manager. In general, partners agree to the following:
    • Meet with the NMPZ Manager on a recurring basis
    • Meet with NMPZ AmeriCorps VISTAs on a recurring basis
    • Send a representative to attend bi-monthly Working Group meetings
      • Contribute some combination of time, labor, expertise, and staff to Working Group projects
    • Contribute at least 25% of grant funds, but preferably more, of funds received with preference to serving community members in the MPZ. Note: Some grants may cover a larger portion of Minneapolis, or even extend to other parts of the Twin Cities. Therefore, grants with a larger coverage area than North Minneapolis will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

  3. Find a Federal grant you would like to partner on and apply for. All Federal Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) can be found on www.grants.gov. Additional information on Federal partners, programs, and grants related to the PZ can be found at www.hudexchange.info/programs/promise-zones/federal-partner-funding-and-technical-assistance-opportunities.
  4. Call the NMPZ Manager at 612-225-7721 to notify her that you intend to apply for a grant.
  5. At least ten business days before the grant application closing date, email two forms to the MPZ Manager:
  6. Approved proposals will be notified and send a signed certification form, which should be enclosed with the grant application and sent to the respective authorities.
  7. Once the final grant decision is made, notify the MPZ Manager of the results. If the grant application is approved, forward the full application, award letter, and contract terms to the NMPZ Manager.
  8. Complete initial and ongoing reporting requirements. These will vary, but will generally include submitting application documents, award documents, and regular reporting on outcomes and success stories.
