Project Limits:

The project connects Minneapolis’s downtown commuter bicycle grid from Hennepin Avenue to the LRT Trail at 11th Avenue South on 3rd St S.

Construction Start Date:

The anticipated construction start date is summer 2010 contingent on additional project funding.

Project Updates:

September 30, 2009

The project is on hold awaiting additional funding. Various options are being evaluated to bring the project scope within the current project funding.

April 30, 2009 City of Minneapolis NTP Update:

Easements from the Met Council are being pursued. Once those are obtained the plans will be finalized. Construction should start by late summer and be complete by fall.

January 9, 2009 City of Minneapolis NTP Update:

The discussion surrounding the Hiawatha Trail - 4th Street connection has now moved toward using 4th Street and Norm McGrew Place, instead of Park Avenue and 3rd Street, due to concerns over having a contra-flow bicycle lane on 3rd Street. Anticipated completion of this project is October of 2009. Note that this date has been moved back from August of 2009.

October 29, 2009 City of Minneapolis NTP Update:

The plans are 90% complete. The consultants have designed the retaining wall (between 11th Avenue and Norm McGrew Place). Work has begun on modifications to signals and intersection changes on 3rd Street, where there will be a contra-flow bike lane. Anticipated completion of this project is August of 2009.
