Public Works’ ADA Transition Plan Update

Through a combination of the Public Works' ADA Transition Plan Update and an upcoming update to Access Minneapolis, the City’s transportation action plan, the City plans to address a variety of issues that impact the accessibility of city streets and sidewalks. In particular, through these two planning processes, Public Works intends to lay out a series of priorities, policies and approaches to address barriers in the public right of way, including sidewalk gaps, complex intersections and obstacles inhibiting pedestrian movement, non-compliant sidewalks and/or driveways, and curb ramp reconstructions.

The Public Works’ ADA Transition Plan update will follow three steps:

  1. Self-Evaluation: The self-evaluation includes assessing policies, procedures, and physical infrastructure within the public right of way.
  2. Identify areas for improvement: The results of the self-evaluation are compared against ADA standards. Items that need improvement are identified.
  3. Implementation Plan: A plan of action to implement improvements is documented.

Tentative Schedule

Self-Evaluation: Fall 2017-Summer 2018

Identify Areas for Improvement: Spring – Fall 2018

Develop Implementation Plan: Fall - Winter 2018
