Project Details

Andersen School is the city's largest K-8 school with 1194 students. This student population is larger than 4 of the city's 7 MPS high schools. Andersen is bordered to the north and south by 26th & 28th Streets, which are high-volume, multi-lane streets. It also shares a site with Stewart Park.

In 2014 Public Works applied for and was awarded federal TAP dollars to improve pedestrian crossings near the school and to build an enhanced bicycle connection between the Midtown Greenway and the school site. These improvements will serve the school, park, and surrounding Phillips community, as well as employees and visitors to the adjacent hospital campus.

Project Layout

The connection between the Midtown Greenway and Andersen School / Stewart Park is outlined in the City's Bicycle Master Plan as the 11th Ave Trail and the 10th Ave Bikeway. Meetings will be held in 2016 to gather feedback on the proposed bikeway and pedestrian improvements.
