What is a Stormwater Credit?
A stormwater credit is a monthly credit applied to property owners’ monthly stormwater fee. A credit may be obtained by installing and maintaining City-approved stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs)
to treat stormwater runoff from impervious areas on the property.
What is the difference between the residential and the commercial credit programs?
The residential credit program only applies to single-family homes through four-plex properties. Single-family homes through four-plex properties are not eligible for the commercial credit program.
All other properties are eligible for a credit under the commercial credit program. This would include industrial, institutional, mixed-use, and multi-level apartment complexes.
How can I apply for Stormwater Credits?
Fill out the application and submit all necessary materials. Once your application is submitted, it will be reviewed in the order it was received. You will be notified if more information is needed.
How will I know if I get a credit?
Once your application has been reviewed and deemed to be complete with all supporting materials, you will be contacted to schedule an on-site inspection of the BMP(s) to ensure that everything is functioning properly and as-designed.
Pending a successful inspection of the BMP(s), you will be notified in writing of the amount of credit you will receive.
When will my credit be awarded?
Any approved stormwater credits will be awarded as of the date of successful inspection. It may take longer to see the credit on your stormwater bill due to the nature of the utility billing cycles, but any credits will be awarded on the account retroactive to the date of successful inspection.
My application was denied. Now what?
In some instances, credit applications are denied. This happens if the application is incomplete, all necessary materials are not submitted, or if the BMP is not City-approved and/or does not meet City standards.
If your application is denied, you will be notified as to the reason(s) why. You may re-submit your application as soon as you have properly addressed the reason(s) for denial.
What if the property I am buying has a Stormwater Credit?
When a property changes ownership, a new Stormwater Credit Application must be submitted for that property. Credits are not granted in-perpetuity: they require active monitoring and maintenance. The application serves as property-owner acknowledgement of the BMP(s) on-site and the necessary monitoring and maintenance, as well as an agreement to the terms and conditions of the Stormwater Credits Program.
