Project Description

Currently, the City of Minneapolis owns and operates approximately 65 facilities for a variety of functions including police precincts, fire stations, public works facilities, and general office buildings. Recently, the City adopted LEED® standards for planning, design, construction, and commissioning of municipal facilities financed by the City such that “all new or significantly renovated municipal facilities of 5,000 square feet or greater, should be built to a LEED® Silver level of quality”. In addition, it is the intent of the City to incorporate LEED® standards as they relate to operations and maintenance of all existing facilities. As a result, since 2008 the City has participated with Xcel Energy in a variety of “re-commissioning” studies for numerous facilities, however a comprehensive program for capital improvements specifically related to energy efficiency and conservation does not yet exist. Therefore, the objectives for this Project are to conduct energy audits of selected City Facilities in order to develop an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Program, with the intent that the City would implement and perform energy efficiency retrofits in compliance with the EECBG Program.
