Dollars Awarded$442,140 Project StatusFully completed Project DescriptionThe Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) will increase the number and quality of investigations involving the analysis of digital media including computers, cell phones, PDAs and other handheld digital devices. The MPD will conduct prosecutorial examination of cases related to information retrieved from the digital devices for charging offenders, disrupting and dismantling criminal enterpises and organizations, and reducing related crimes such as homicide, aggravated assaults, robbery and child pronography. Information retrieved from the digital media leading to criminally-gained assets will lead to action to seizure of those assets. This program will be a unique partnership between the MPD and the Hennepin County Attorney's Office enhancing the coordination of investigative efforts and prosecutorial guidance regarding major crimes and asset forfeiture actions. The MPD Computer Forensic Analysis for Major Crime and Asset Forfeiture Investigations Program will actively promote and participate in information exchange and investigative opportunities with other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
