Garage Door Openers

This item collected on recycling week only. Limit of 2 large items per recycling week. Place next to the garbage cart on the recycling day. Please post a sign or write on the item "For Solid Waste". Item will be picked up on next business day after recycling day.


The metal track poles must be less than 6 feet in length and bundled. Bundles not to exceed 40 lbs. Limit of 2 bundles per recycling week.


Remote controls
: Remove the battery, bag and place the remote control inside the garbage cart. Please remember to recycle the battery.

Garbage

Bag and place inside the garbage cart. Place the garbage cart at the collection point by 6:00 AM on the collection day.

 

Garbage Disposal

This item collected on recycling week only. Limit of 2 large items per recycling week. Place next to the garbage cart on the recycling day. Please post a sign or write on the item "For Solid Waste". Item will be picked up on next business day after recycling day.

Garden Plants

Garden plants can be included with grass clippings and leaves. Place in plastic bags. Each bag must weigh less than 40 lbs. Do not use bags larger than 33 gallons.

State law prohibits disposing of yard waste with the garbage. South Transfer Station does not accept yard waste.

Yard waste collected mid-April through mid-November, weather permitting.

 

Garden Pots, Plastic Trays

Bag and place inside the garbage cart. We do not accept garden pots or plastic trays in the recycling program.

This plastic becomes weak and brittle when exposed to ultraviolet light and is not valued as recycling.

 

Gas Cylinders & Tanks

Do NOT place in the garbage cart. This item NOT collected by Solid Waste & Recycling or accepted at the South Transfer Station. Disposal with garbage is prohibited.

Items marked Caution, Caustic, Corrosive, Danger, Flammable, Poison, Volatile, or Warning should be considered a hazardous waste product and proper disposal is required. Do NOT place in garbage. Go to Hennepin County A-Z Guide for additional information.


Disposal with garbage is prohibited, due to the potential danger from explosions. For a fee, Lakes Gas Company at (612) 529-9276 accepts compressed gas cylinders/tanks.

After January 1, 2003, any four (4) to 40 pound propane gas tank not equipped with an OPD valve will not be refilled.

 

Gasoline

Do NOT place in the garbage cart. This item NOT collected by Solid Waste & Recycling or accepted at the South Transfer Station. Disposal with garbage is prohibited.

Gift Boxes

Bag and place inside the garbage cart. Not accepted with recycling.

 

Gift Wrap

Bag and place inside the garbage cart. We do not accept gift wrap in the recycling program.

 

Glass: food, beverage, bottles

Glass food or beverage bottles and jars. Clear, green, blue or brown glass. Throw away caps, lids, and rings. Rinse and place in paper bags, no need to separate by glass color.

WE DO NOT ACCEPT BROKEN GLASS.

 

Glass: Household Items

Bag and place inside the garbage cart. We do not accept the following items in the recycling program: auto glass, ceramic cups, clay garden pots, crystal, dishware, drinking glasses, mirrors, glass ovenware, plate glass, window or door glass.

Glossy coated paper

Glossy coated paper/junk mail. Place in paper bag with Magazines & Catalogs. Instead of using a paper bag, you can bundle with string or twine. Each bag or bundle must weigh less than twenty (20) lbs.

If the glossy paper has come with the Newspaper, then leave it with the newspaper, and recycle.  All other glossy paper can be recycled with magazines & catalogs.

 

Grass Clippings

Grass clippings can be included with leaves. Place in plastic bags. Each bag must weigh less than 40 lbs. Do not use bags larger than 33 gallons.

Solid Waste & Recycling recommends that you leave grass clippings on your lawn.

Grease: Cooking Oil

Bag securely and place small amounts (up to one (1) gallon per week) inside the garbage cart. Cooking grease or cooking oil should not be poured down a drain!

 

Greeting Cards

Bag and place inside the garbage cart. We do not accept greeting cards in the recycling program.

St. Judes Ranch for Children no longer accepts greeting cards for reuse/recycling.

 

Grill

This item collected on recycling week only. Limit of 2 large items per recycling week. Place next to the garbage cart on the recycling day. Please post a sign or write on the item "For Solid Waste". Item will be picked up on next business day after recycling day.

Grocery Bags

We do not accept with the recycling program.

Paper: Bag and place inside the garbage cart.

Save and use to separate recycling, or see donate.

Plastic: Bag and place inside the garbage cart. Plastic bags are not accepted with recycling, because the market for this plastic is poor. Save and re-use, or see donate.


Some grocery stores are able to take plastic bags because they require the companies from which they purchase bags to recycle them. Minneapolis would have to pay someone to take plastic bags for recycling.

Call your local precinct for proper disposal. If you find an item that may be an explosive, do not move it—call 911.
