Smoke Detector

Remove and recycle the batteries. The rest may be placed in the trash.

Snow Blower

Snowmobiles

DO NOT place next to the garbage cart, or part of this item in the garbage. Not collected or accepted by Solid Waste & Recycling or with a voucher at the South Transfer Station. Disposal with garbage is prohibited.

Sod

Remove all or most of the dirt. Place in plastic bags. Each bag must weigh less than 40 lbs. Do not use bags larger than 33 gallons.

State law prohibits disposing of yard waste with the garbage. South Transfer Station does not accept yard waste.

Yard waste collected mid-April through mid-November, weather permitting.

Soda Boxes

Bag and place inside the garbage cart. Beverage boxes have a wet strength additive that make them difficult to recycle. We do not collect this item in the recycling program. We wanted to collect as much recycling as possible, but also keep it simple for our customers. Collecting only "Dry food boxes" helps us avoid many problem boxes.

 

Soda Cans

Aluminum or steel food and/or beverage containers. Rinse and place in paper bags.

 

Sofa/Couch

Not Metal: If less than 6 feet in length and less than 50% metal. Place it next to the garbage cart on your garbage day. Please post a sign or write on the item "For Solid Waste". Limit of 2 large items per garbage day.

Spot Remover: Laundry

If empty, bag and place inside the garbage cart.

Empty plastic bottles that have been rinsed clean with the pump/lids removed, may be recycled with plastic bottles.

Storm Windows

Metal storm windows are collected on the recycling week only. Please remove glass from metal storm windows. Place next to the garbage cart on the recycling day. Straw

Straw can be included with grass clippings and leaves. Place in plastic bags. Each bag must weigh less than 40 lbs. Do not use bags larger than 33 gallons.

Syringes

Needles and/or syringes may be collected with garbage if properly prepared. Needles and/or syringes must be placed in a heavy plastic container with a screw on lid, such as a 2-liter pop bottle or laundry detergent bottle. Make sure the lid/cap is screwed on and secured with heavy duty tape. Bag and place the filled container inside the garbage cart. There is no need to label the container.

Solid Waste & Recycling will not collect “Sharps” containers. Inquire about disposal options at a health provider or pharmacy. South Transfer Station will NOT accept this item.
