Landscape Timbers

Landscape timbers with creosote are not accepted by Solid waste & Recycling or at the South Transfer Station.

Donate to someone interested in reusing railroad ties in a landscaping project. Burnsville Sanitary Landfill accepts railroad ties for a fee. For additional information call (952) 890-4015 or (952) 890-3248.

Laundry Tub

Concrete Laundry Tub - Item accepted at South Transfer Station with a voucher. Vouchers are available to customers of Minneapolis Solid Waste & Recycling, see Voucher Program for details.

Plastic Laundry Tub - This item is collected with the garbage. Place next to your garbage cart on your collection day. Limit of 2 large items per garbage week. Please post a sign or write on the item "For Solid Waste".

Metal Laundry Tub - This item collected on recycling week only. Place next to the garbage cart on the recycling day. Limit of 2 large items per recycling week. Please post a sign or write on the item "For Solid Waste". Item will be picked up on next business day after recycling day.

Lawn Mower

This item collected on recycling week only. Must Drain gasoline and oil. Place next to the garbage cart on the recycling day.

Limit of 2 large items per recycling week. Please post a sign or write on the item "For Solid Waste". Item will be picked up on next business day after recycling day.

Lead Based Paint -(Construction & Demolition Debris and Lead Based Paint Chips)

Lead is hazardous waste. The South Transfer Station does NOT accept any hazardous waste including construction & demolition debris containing lead based paint.

Lead-Based Paint Chips are also considered hazardous waste and must NOT be disposed of in the garbage.

Leaves, Grass Clippings, and Yard Trimmings

Place together in bags. Each bag must weigh less than 40 lbs. Do not use bags larger than 33 gallons.

Light Bulbs

ACCEPTED: |
Standard Light Bulbs And Halogen Lamps: (Incandescent Bulbs) Bag and place inside the garbage cart. String and holiday lights that no longer work may be placed in your household trash.

NOT ACCEPTED: The following are NOT collected by Solid Waste & Recycling. Disposal with garbage is prohibited and NOT accepted at the South Transfer Station.

Fluorescent lamps (light bulbs) and ballasts from fluorescent lamps are banned from solid waste disposal in Minnesota. This includes other non-incandescent lights such as tubes, circles, u-shape, and compact fluorescent bulbs/lights.

High density discharge (HID) lamps: Generally used for exterior lighting and include high-pressure sodium, mercury vapor and metal halide lamps.

Neon Lights - household hazardous waste.

Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL) can now be recycled at Menard’s or Home Depot. Only CFL are accepted. It is illegal to throw CFL’s in the garbage due to the presence of a small amount of mercury.
