Minneapolis Annual Earth Day
Watershed Clean Up
Minneapolis Earth Day Watershed Clean Up is held annually in April. Earth Day is a collaborative effort between the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB), the City of Minneapolis’ Solid Waste and Recycling Division, and several neighborhood organizations.
The Earth Day Watershed Clean Up is an opportunity for Minneapolis’ neighborhoods, businesses and volunteer organizations to come together for a common purpose: stewardship of our city’s watersheds, lakes, rivers and streams. Volunteers pick up trash and assist in cleaning up Minneapolis’ water resources. After the clean up volunteers are invited to attend a celebration party where refreshments, door prizes and watershed educational programming is available.
Earth Day participants cleaned up shoreline and open space areas throughout Minneapolis, including:
- The Chain of Lakes (Brownie Lake, Cedar Lake, Lake of the Isles, Lake Calhoun & Lake Harriet)
- Shingle Creek Corridor
- Minnehaha Creek Corridor
- Mississippi River Corridor
- Grass Lake
- Diamond Lake
- Lake Nokomis
- Lake Hiawatha
- Powderhorn Lake
- Bassett’s Creek
- Wirth Lake
To become involved in Earth Day activities, call the Earth Day Hotline at (612) 313-7722 (February-April) visit MPRB’s Earth Day weblink.
