Minneapolis Greenhouse Gas Emissions Tracking
Minneapolis is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and has adopted targets to reduce community-wide emissions 15 percent by 2015, 30 percent by 2025, and 80 percent by 2050 using 2006 as a baseline.
Citywide Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory
Minneapolis greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from citywide activities decreased 20.4% in 2016 compared to the 2006 baseline.
GHG emissions decreased 3.1% in 2016 compared to the previous year. Increases in emissions from natural gas consumption, solid waste, and wastewater were offset by decreases in emissions from electricity consumption and on-road transportation.

The City also tracks GHG emissions related to its municipal operations.
Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory Protocol
Establishing a baseline and protocol in order to measure results is an important part of this initiative. The methodology for estimating the community's greenhouse gas emissions was updated for the 2015 inventory. An updated protocol will be posted soon.
