Minneapolis Climate Action Plan
The consensus is clear: the global climate is changing and human activities are major contributors to that change. While climate change is a global issue, local action can make a difference. Minneapolis Sustainability staff are working with partners in the public, private, and non-profit sectors, as well as the community at large, to update the Minneapolis Climate Action Plan. The plan will provide a roadmap to guide Minneapolis towards our greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets.
Process update
Throughout 2012 and early 2013, City staff worked with technical advisory groups made up of technical experts and community representatives to develop a comprehensive set of emissions reduction strategies in three areas: buildings and energy, transportation and land use, and waste and recycling. An Environmental Justice working group met through the fall and early winter of 2012 to provide recommendations and feedback to the Steering Committee, which held its final meeting on April 8, 2013. How to get involved
The Minneapolis City Council will soon review the draft Climate Action Plan and consider it for adoption. As part of that process, the Council's Regulatory, Energy, and Environment Committee will review the document. Members of the public can contact their Council Member to comment on the plan. The Regulatory, Energy and Environment Committee will review the document at the June 17th meeting.
