One-sort is Easy, Cost Effective, and Good for the Environment
- Have you heard? One-sort recycling means that you put all your clean recyclables into one big, blue cart. Gargage will still go into the grey cart.
- New recycling carts will show up at some homes soon, the remainder next spring. The phased distribution will save about $450,000 and allow crews to optimize procedures before going citywide. Cart delivery is based on garbage routes, not blocks or neighborhoods. You may see some carts in your neighborhood even if you haven't received yours yet.
- New mechanized sorting means that most material collected will be sold and reused, helping to pay for the system so there is no need to raise the monthly collection cost.
- The recycling credit will be cut, but the garbage fee will be lowered by $7 so the payment will remain the same. The recycling credit was no longer working as an incentive for people to recycle more. There will be no charge for your new cart.
- Old recycling bins will be picked up and recycled if left emply by the new bin, but you are encouraged to keep it for storage or hauling purposes, your choice.
- Want to know whether your cart will arrive in fall or spring? Call 673-2917 or see: Minneapolis Recycle One-sort. Onesort starts when your cart shows up. Until then, please continue to sort your recyclables.
I am always eager to hear from you. If you have questions, please call 673-2212 or write sandra.colvin.roy@minneapolismn.gov .
