Adult Male Dies After Shooting Outside a Business

June 16, 2021

On Wednesday evening at 6:10 p.m., a 3th Precinct Sergeant was in the area of East Lake Street and Cedar Avenue when he heard a volley of gunshot to his west. The sergeant immediately went towards the sound of the shots and, within 30 seconds, dispatch aired a ShotSpotter activation on the 1700 block of East Lake Street. A 911 call then came in reporting one person had been shot. Information was also relayed that the suspect fled in a vehicle.

The sergeant and responding officers arrived and began immediate medical aid on the victim until relieved by paramedics. The paramedics eventually pronounced the victim deceased.

Officers secured the scene and protected the area. The Minneapolis Police Department Homicide and Crime Lab Units responded to the scene and started their investigation.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim, believed to be an adult male in his 30s, was outside of a business when a car pulled up and a person got out and fired multiple rounds at the victim, striking him at least once. The suspect then fled in the same vehicle he arrived in. Early indication is that this was not a random act.

The Medical Examiner will release the identity of the victim, along with the nature and cause of death in the days to come.

The GO # for this case is 21-131602.
