Statement of Purpose
Mission Statement
To enforce the Minneapolis Civil Rights Ordinance (MCRO) by fusing academic excellence, experience, and judgment to produce a high quality investigation into allegations of discrimination, while forming critical partnerships within the community.
Vision Statement
To strategically position the Department as the leading civil rights agency in the City of Minneapolis and to serve as resource for resolution or deterrence of illegal discrimination, while pursuing the public’s interest in securing justice.
Values
The CID will uphold the Department’s values of integrity, accountability, honesty, respect, courage, and quality. We will strive to implement these guidelines by demonstrating:
- Fellowship: establishing a presence in legal community by reaching out to law schools and practitioners;
- Scholarship: continuing the development of our knowledge in human/civil rights law, and to share it with the community; and
- Leadership: managing the legal issues stemming from the MCRO
In addition, the CIU will use its analytical and problem solving skills to thoroughly investigate complaints of discrimination; exercise sound judgment in making decisions on complex issues; remain flexible in dealing with stressful situations; adapt to and accept change; and maintain a professional team environment in an effort to accomplish unit goals.
