What community groups will be involved in the process?
A: The Downtown Minneapolis Neighborhood Association (DMNA) is the officially recognized community group. There may also be other groups the City asks to review and comment during the process.
We’re curious as to the City’s desired outcome for the two historic buildings. Does the City desire for these to be listed on the National Register and adaptively reused, or for them to be demolished and replaced with new construction? Or, alternatively, is the City not particular either way and just looking for the highest and best use of the site?
A: As noted in Section 3 of the RFQ, the City is interested in the developer’s advice about the Public Service Center and City of Lakes Buildings, including the economic viability of retaining all or a portion of them and adaptively reusing them as part of a larger development.
Can the public alley be used in determination of FAR for the block.
A: Don’t include the alley for FAR purposes at this point. Whether the City would be willing to vacate the alley above a certain height is one of the questions we’d need to discuss during the design plan process.
Please provide a survey of the site and the square footage of the existing improvements. If possible, please break down by office space and retail space available.
