Minneapolis Employment & Training Program (METP)
As CPED works to grow a sustainable city, the Minneapolis Employment and Training Program (METP) administers a variety of employment and training programs designed to assist Minneapolis youth, adults and area employers. METP evaluates and selects providers for certain programs and directly administers others. METP also staffs the Minneapolis Workforce Council.

Job Seeker Programs
- Adult Programs help Minneapolis residents with low incomes find and keep jobs or pursue training that will lead to a job.
- The Dislocated Worker Program provides employment and training services to individual workers who lose their jobs due to closings, reorganizations or other permanent layoffs and provide assistance with the transition to new employment.
- The Minnesota Family Investment Program offers job training and case management services to eligible people who receive family cash assistance.
- The Individual Referral Program provides tuition funds and assists low-income residents seeking employment-related training.

Youth Programs
- Year-Round Youth Programs help Minneapolis residents ages 14-21 stay in school and provide extensive work readiness, education and employment services.
- The Minneapolis Promise helps Minneapolis students plan a vision for their future and prepare for employment through career counseling, summer job opportunities and assistance with post secondary education and training.
- The STEP-UP summer job program provides Minneapolis youth ages 14-21 with summer employment and career exploration opportunities. Youth are matched with jobs at non-profits and businesses that compliment their skills and interests.
- AchieveMpls Career and College Centers in Minneapolis high schools work with students to create a life plan and prepare for post-secondary education opportunities.
- The Power of YOU covers the cost of tuition and fees for two years or up to 72 credits at Minneapolis Community and Technical College, Saint Paul College or Metropolitan State University.
Business Services
- METP provides a variety of tools and links to assist Minneapolis businesses with employment, training and recruitment.
- The Shared Work Program is an option for employers faced with a layoff and allows an employer to divide available hours of work among a group of employees instead of a full layoff. Affected employees may then receive partial unemployment insurance benefits while working reduced hours. By participating in the Shared Work Program, an employer can maintain morale, productivity and flexibility in the work place.
- CPED also provides Business Assistance and Finance Programs to assist Minneapolis businesses.
